WATCH – Even the best leaders cry

Here is one of the best leaders you will find – Johan ‘Rassie’ Erasmus, head coach of the Springboks (South African rugby team) – crying when he talks about one of his players.

Rassie took on his role in early 2018, against all odd … the Springboks (Boks) had dropped in their world rankings to an all-time-low, sponsors were pulling out, fans started to give up on them, and he had a tough ‘side-job’ to transform the Boks into a representative South African team.

Within two years, he had turned things around so much so that the Boks triumphed at the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, becoming world champions by beating one of the top teams – England – in the final.

Vulnerability build trust

Here is this great leader crying … how often do you see that?

Being vulnerable around your people signals that you really care, and is an ingredient in building trust and connection with them.

Vulnerability is the foundation that sets a culture of trust, where people feel safe and their leader ‘has their back’ … inspiring them to (sacrifice) go the extra mile. This kind of culture is the glue that breeds and nurtures outstanding teams!

So … are any of your leaders brave enough to cry?! Just some food for thought …
